ECONOMIC NEWS

In 2024, Vietnam’s footwear and leather products exports soared to $27.04 billion, marking an 11.45% increase from the previous year, as reported by the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso). Footwear exports alone rose by 13.16% to $23.24 billion, while suitcases and bags contributed $3.8 billion, up 9.7%. Despite these gains, domestic producers face challenges, primarily due to their reliance on contract manufacturing and imported raw materials from China, South Korea, and ASEAN countries.

On February 5, the Vietnamese government issued a resolution urging all 63 provinces and cities to target a GDP growth rate of at least 8% for 2025, revising its earlier projection of 6.5-7%. Last year, the economy expanded by 7.09%, with the GDP reaching VND 11,511.9 trillion (approximately $476.3 billion) and a per capita GDP of $4,700, reflecting a $377 increase from 2023, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
